Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 4 TB Review

Being a habitual viewer of Amazon.com and a regular customer of Seagate products, when I started looking for an external drive for my laptop, the best I could find was Seagate GoFlex 4 TB external hard drive featuring 5 LEDs, a USB 3.0 base dock, 4 foot USB cord and much more. It looks cool; black, thin and sleek with a nice build. But definitely I don’t like it for its looks solely but the attributes and options are pretty remarkable so far. I needed to transfer my work related files into an external drive so I could easily take it along to office and use it with the laptop. I ordered it straight from Amazon and received the pack in time without any delay along with an AC adaptor and a capacity gauge display (thanks Seagate I hate buying adaptors separately).
- It’s a STAC4000100 model and so far according to various reviews it is considered as world’s most versatile external drive due to its features. As far as my experience is concerned the best part is that it can be used on my laptop; a PC and Mac computer interchangeably without any reformatting. It is easy to use having pre loaded backup software with encryption. For USB 2.0 users it might be a little slow but since I am using it with a USB 3.0 port in my system so the transfer rate is quicker than expected. The installation process is very simple and easy, it installs all the drives automatically.
So far I haven’t found any negatives about this gadget. However, I am sometimes irritated by its hibernating feature when it goes inactive after some time. So I immediately consulted the customer services and I was told how to disable this feature of auto sleep. So no I have absolutely no issues regarding the product now. I am very much satisfied its performance so far. So yes, I highly recommend it!
Pros
- Nice build
- AC adaptor
- USB 3.0 dock
Cons
- Auto-sleep feature

“Noisiest hard drive with a lot of problems ”
Pros
Works smoothly initially InexpensiveCons
Doesn’t offer value for money Makes very weird sounds Crashes and stops mounting if left idleSummary
I felt the need of an external hard drive because of the extra data I had been saving up on my laptop. Since Seagate products are known to be the best, I got the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 4TB hard drive. I have a Mac and I started using the hard drive with it but after some weeks, the strangest sounds started coming out of the gadget. The same time around the hard drive started making weird sounds, it didn’t really mount and when it did, it stopped if I left it idle for a few minutes.
The Seagate Desk 4TB hard drive also locks up and crashes frequently if you leave it idle. I have been largely disappointed with this Seagate product. I spent the money on the hard drive after reading positive reviews about it but the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 4TB hard drive was definitely my first and last Seagate purchase. I don’t recommend this product to anyone because it is a big disappointment. It works like a charm in the first few days but later on, it turns into a massive pain in the butt.
“Easily upgradable, super secure and massively affordable”
Pros
Really fast Secures data tightly USB 3.0 with 4 TB Very affordable.Cons
Plastic chassis prone to fingerprints smudges and dust The USB 3.0 cable is a bit short.Summary
So here’s the thing, I am an IT professional and I often carry data that is very sensitive and I do not want it to get in the wrong hands. I have been looking for an external hard drive that offers me a lot of disk storage space and a security.
I got my eyes on the Seagate Goflex Desk 4 TB external hard drive. The first thing I loved about the hard drive is its price. 4TB for such a low price with great features is rare these days. I am glad that I picked this drive up because now I have my hands on an awesome drive that not only transfers data quicker but also has one of the finest security software in the industry.
With the USB 3.0 interface, I am glad that I came to a conclusion to pick this drive up. With the USB 3.0 interface, I was able to transfer a folder of nearly 2 GBs in less than 20 seconds, just WOW!
If you are looking for a hard drive with massive storage and a very decent price that not only transfer data at lightning speed but also promises to protect it from wrong hands, this is one of the best options in the market. I have been using this drive for months now and I am more than satisfied with its performance, features and connectivity options.
